Favorite Author # 2

Favorite Author #2

My second favorite children’s book author is a wonderful woman named Cynthia Rylant.  Much like Kevin Henkes, her books span many age levels and are very relatable.  She writes picture books but also chapter books and novels.  She has written more than 100 books!  Ms. Rylant is someone that I would like to be just like when I grow up!  She is another author that you should be familiar with if you aren’t already.  Her books will amaze you!

One big difference between Mr. Henkes ...

Diary of A Wimpy Kid- Rodrick Rules

As a dad of two kids, I see a lot of family films (all?), but this was the first time I saw one without my kids.  And seeing Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, at a press event gave me an opportunity to take a good look at the film.  This follow up to the original film, based on the best-selling books by Jeff Kinney, follows wise-cracking Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) as he starts his second year at middle school.  The film spotlights Greg’s growing pains as he ...

Talking to Your Children About Japan

As we all try to grasp the horror of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, you might be confronted by questions from your child.  Children of different ages will require different responses from you.  For all children, especially those six years and younger, I urge you to refer to Chapter 11 in my book, Just Tell Me What To Say, which addresses how we answer young children's questions about natural disasters.  For older children, see below.

The single most important message for you calmly and confidently to communicate to ...
