    Norfolk offers a free resource to its citizens that teaches kids of various ages how to be safe in traffic; since education is part of Bike Norfolk’s Mission it only makes sense to take advantage of their bicycle safety class.Norfolk parents are invited to bring their kids to Safety City (next to the Zoo) for a 1 ½ to 2 hour bicycle safety class. The curriculum is tailored to 3rd & 4th graders but all ages are welcome; it’s up to you to decide if your child will benefit from this class (see class description below). Helmets are required, they have 15 bikes for kids to use but I encourage you to bring your kids bike.

Your team may face a detour and have to make a choice: collect as many different toy “Cars” from the Disney movie as possible that are hidden around the oceanfront or try to win a remote-controlled car race on the boardwalk! Detours, roadblocks, and speed limits abound at this one-of-a-kind event that’s fast and furious! Winning teams receive trophies. Everyone who plays gets a “Boardwalk 500” medal. Then, settle in the sand on your blanket or beach chairs for the animated classic “Cars.” The movie starts around 8:30pm.

    The Duck Tape Regatta (DTR) is a unique fund-raiser for the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD). The 8th annual Duck Tape Regatta will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Willoughby Harbor - a VMG Marina on 1525 Bayville Street in Norfolk, Virginia. Members of The King's Daughters' Union of Hands and Southern Vines Circles are coordinating the event. It is a very successful event that has raised more than $140,000 for CHKD!!

    This was a fun and easy art project that my kids and our friends did at the park one day.  Both the younger and older kids had fun with this activity.  We first set up all the paint colors into the egg carton then placed a marble in each color.   A Facebook fan of our suggested using acorns, rocks, whatever nature is around you.  Such a great suggestion!  I think next time we'll try it with rocks that the kids ...
