Saturday, October 8 - National Costume Swap Day

During the week of October 1-7, bring your outgrown costumes to the Knapsack store. The Knapsack will give you a ticket for each costume you bring you, that allows you to attend the swap. On Saturday October 8, head back to the Knapsack and start shopping! Each costume will cost $1, which will be directly donated to the Circle in the Bridge, a fundraising group for The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. Circle in the Bridge members will be on site that day to answer questions about their organization and to do face painting (for an additional donation!)

Join us in at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach for our Biplanes and Triplanes WWI Airshow during the last warm days of summer, when the hotel rates have come down, but the excitement has gone up. Imagine the spectacle of colorful airplanes dancing through the bright blue sky, with infantry encampments underneath. Join re-enactors and musical entertainment from the early days of vaudeville and the birth of the movie industry. The Portsmouth Farmer's Market Blog serves the Portsmouth Virginia area. The market provides fresh produce, herbs, meats, baked goods, sauces, and products from local farmers, backyard gardeners, bakers, and restaurants. This is a prime example of the new Green Movement’s "buy local" philosophy in action. Due to popular demand, the market is expanding and will be held on Court and High Street re-starting this Spring and running through the Fall.

Monday, October 10 - Leave a Message For Our Troops

In celebration of Fleet Week Hampton Roads, and in honor of our servicemen and women, Nauticus will unveil a special tribute wall on the deck surrounding the Battleship Wisconsin on Monday, October 10th at 11 a.m. The ceremony will proceed rain or shine. A 24-foot-long chalkboard is entitled "A NOTE TO OUR TROOPS." Any visitors to the waterfront will be encouraged to write a message of gratitude or appreciation to those men and women serving in the armed forces. These messages will be photographed and catalogued on the Nauticus website, www.nauticus.org for the whole world to see.

   Is it just me, or is it fun to create something different from otherwise ordinary ingredients? Plain Jell-o won't do it for me, we must cut out shapes. And just Rice Krispie treats won't work either, we must instead use food coloring then mold them into pumpkins or turkeys!  So, when I saw this idea, I thought, "Now, there's an activity we can have a good time with!"

The very best place to purchase a pumpkin is at a pick-your-own pumpkin patch!  Here are a few of Macaroni Kid tired and true ways to assure that the pumpkin is fresh for the season!
