MacArthur Center's Ice Palace has opened!


MacArthur Center, in Downtown Norfolk, opened their arctic wonderland, the enchanted Ice Palace, last week. The free, multi-sensory exhibit features snow, interactive elements, breathtaking footage of arctic animals and landscapes, and a beautiful Ice Princess in addition to visits from Santa Claus.

 

The magical, 22-foot Ice Palace, allows guests to experience falling snow, a captivating light show and a 360-degree immersion in breathtaking footage of arctic polar bears, foxes, penguins and other animals and landscapes.

Bring your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, or any children in your life and join the JLNVB at Pembroke Mall for the Foodbank's Mayflower Marathon and our JLNVB Kids Volunteer Day! In the food court we will have healthy snacks, crafts, and games for the children. There is even an indoor bungee jump (fee for jumping) and a Santa Parade at 11:00am.At 11:30am we will have our little vounteers sort "kid-friendly" foods that are needed at the Foodbank and we will all deliver them to the Mayflower Marathon at Noon

NFL Corner Back Don Carey of the Detroit Lions will host the Don Carey End Childhood Hunger Football Classic.  This football game will feature semi pro teams, the Portsmouth Mustangs and the Virginia Beach Rhinos.  The proceeds from the gate will go to Virginia Kids Eat Free, a non-profit agency that feeds thousands of children all year round throughout Hampton Roads and has served over 1 Million FREE meals to kids since its inception.  The concession stand will be operated by the Booker T. Washington High School Band Boosters and the proceeds from the concession will go to the Booker T. Washington Band to help pay for their new uniforms

Saturday, November 19 - FREE! ABRAKADOODLE Make it and Take it Workshop and more!

Stop in the Selden Arcade before the Grand Illumination Parade and make a Russian Star inspired by the homemade decor of European custom and folk traditions of pre-soviet Russia. Claudia Croneberger will teach this workshop where children will assemble and decorate these festive pieces with brightly colored ribbons and markers. There will be another make it and take it craft as well. Face painting activities have been planned by D'Art and their hoiday gift shop will be opening at 10am. Don't forget Starbucks is herel too! The building will be open until 10pm. CANSTRUCTION is still on display and donations for the Foodbank are being accepted through Monday November 21st!

Thursday, February 7 - Chesapeake Planetarium

These programs are provided as a free service of the Chesapeake Public School System. January- “Exploring The Night Sky”-An introduction to the world of astronomy and stargazing will be our topic.  We will demonstrate the basic use of a telescope and other optical instruments for observing the night sky.  After the program we will observe through the planetarium’s large telescope (weather permitting).

The Military Aviation Museum presents "Trains and Planes" the day after Thanksgiving through the weekend! Come inside our hangars, where you will find a very distinctive sound of train whistlesechoing throughout the facility. Look closer and you will find white smoke pouring out of locomotive stacks. Train enthusiasts come from all over  to setup their special displays of unique trains and scenery.  Join the excitement as we have a special fly-in from Santa Claus himself both Friday & Saturday at 1pm. Santa will land and sit in his big comfortable chair next to a decorated Christmas tree, each child will get a chance to give him their Christmas wish list and get a photo

Material needed:
-brown t-shirt or onesie(I purchased mine from Hobby Lobby for $2.99)
-various colors of felt(white, green, red, orange, yellow, black)
-fabric glue
-scissors
Optional Items:
-2 small black buttons
-needle
-thread
-ribbon for bow

 

 

Cut two small circles out of the white felt for the turkeys eyes. 
I traced something round I had lying around the house. Cut a 
triangle out of the orange felt. For the wattle(red hangy thingy) use 
a piece of red felt. I had to kind of wing this one ...
