Winterblast will also feature Hampton Roads local, Bria Kelly. On Monday January 16, 2012, Americans across the country will honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by helping their neighbors and communities. Led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the MLK Day of Service will include thousands of projects spread across all 50 states.

 Dr. King devoted his life to advancing equality, social justice, and economic opportunity for all. He challenged us to build a more perfect union and taught us that everyone has a role to play. Four decades later, we still have work to do to ...

Session Description: School bullying is an international epidemic that causes long-term, often irreversible, damage to all students involved. This two-hour class for expectant and new parents will help Mom and Dad navigate the first months of Baby's life while learning how to soothe even the fussiest infant in minutes and help Baby sleep longer. It's time for the fifth annual Pink in the Rink! The Admirals and the Tidewater Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure will hold “Pink in the Rink” at the Admirals game at Scope on Saturday night. This popular event where the ice is dyed pink will seek to educate and raise awareness about breast cancer while also raising monies for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Events leading up to and during the game include a breast cancer informational session, survivor participation during game night, "Hockey 101" and a silent auction for player-autographed items. The "Hockey 101" will be held starting at 6:15 p.m. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis for "Hockey 101."

The Archonettes of the Beta Theta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. will be hosting the 10th Annual "Redeem the Dream" step show competition on January 16, 2012. This spectacular event will be held at the Murray Center located at 455 E. Many of them have received legal custody due to the children being in abusive and or neglectful situations, death of a parent, or incarceration of a parent.

Thursday, February 7 - Chesapeake Planetarium

These programs are provided as a free service of the Chesapeake Public School System. January- “Exploring The Night Sky”-An introduction to the world of astronomy and stargazing will be our topic.  We will demonstrate the basic use of a telescope and other optical instruments for observing the night sky.  After the program we will observe through the planetarium’s large telescope (weather permitting).
