Wednesday, April 25 - Putting Autism in Perspective (Parent Program)

Teaching, raising or relating to a child with autism requires us to take the perspective of a person whose thinking architecture, sensory perceptions and communication pathways may be very different from ours. Award-winning author Ellen Notbohm, mother of two sons on the spectrum, will offer parents guideposts for facing their child’s autism with a healthy and productive outlook, and share a child’s-eye look at the primary characteristics of autism embodied in her book, Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew. This program is presented by Kohl's Cares Family Forum.

Mommy & Me Playtime offers a morning of free, family fun each month on the fourth Wednesday of the month.Activities include Make & Take Art Project, Storyteller and Music & Motion activities that combine music, dance, and interactive games for children under 7. Families will register as they come in to participate and will receive merchant offers, discounts and coupons as part of their registration packet

Each participant also receives a free apron, goggles, a project themed patch, and a certification of merit upon completion of their project.

Tuesday, January 8 - Zoo Tales

Sunday, January 27 - Virginia Symphony Peanut Butter & Jam Family Concert Series

Designed especially for families with children ages 2-12, these informal, hour-long matinee concerts are both entertaining and educational. As always, you can come early and enjoy pre-concert crafts and activities including an instrument petting zoo, face painting and more.  And our friends at the Virginia Aquarium will be bringing a special exhibit to the Chrysler Hall lobby!

Thursday, February 7 - Chesapeake Planetarium

These programs are provided as a free service of the Chesapeake Public School System. January- “Exploring The Night Sky”-An introduction to the world of astronomy and stargazing will be our topic.  We will demonstrate the basic use of a telescope and other optical instruments for observing the night sky.  After the program we will observe through the planetarium’s large telescope (weather permitting).

Wednesday, February 13 - Early Expeditions at Virginia Aquarium

Building upon the successful Toddler Tuesdays and Toddler Trek Thursdays, the Aquarium will be offering a Wednesday program for toddlers starting April 25. Join us in the Conservation Station to help solve a different animal mystery each week. Aimed to develop problem-solving skills and help figure out the who, what, when, where, and whys of the animal world. Best for ages 2-5yrs
