First there was the Mouse – then the Pig – now, here comes the Cat!  Based on the newest installment in the zany “If You Give a…” book series, the Omaha Theater Company brings this madcap world premiere, musical production to the stage.  The Cat asks his new friend Laura for some sprinkles on his cupcake.  Naturally, they spill on the floor – then the hijinks ensue!  The audience takes a “world-wind” tour following the antics of the Cat as he travels to the beach, the gym, the mountains, the museum, and the lake.  Ultimately, the Cat and Laura make their way back home to where the sprinkles and another cupcake await them.

Thursday, January 20 through Thursday, January 20 - Extreme Home Makeover Hampton Roads Pep Rally

Less than two weeks before an army of construction volunteers begins building a new home for a deserving local family! Hampton Roads residents eager to be part of the project are invited to attend an old-fashioned Pep Rally. National Anthem by Erin Roberts of Chesapeake. God Bless America by 9-year-old Elizabeth Hughes of Chesapeake. The premier of a new anthem for the Hampton Roads Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build called “It’s Our Time to Make a Difference”. Its composer, popular local songwriter & singer Lewis McGehee will perform it.

The Contemporary Art Center presents the International Children’s Film Festival on tour, curated by Elizabeth Shepherd of the Northwest Film Forum. The films were selected to support a visual understanding of other cultures and traditions and to foster conversation and critical thinking.

How to play: 

Have two players face each other, one blindfolded and the other with all of their collected items.

The player who is sighted gently brushes the objects, one by one, across the blindfolded player's cheek. The player with the items must handle them carefully as to not let the other player tell what each item is.

Fast, easy, fun and cheap homemade Play Dough!

 I've developed this particular recipe for homemade dough through a couple years of trial and error.  It's easy and fast, no cooking necessary, and uses ingredients that you probably already have.  (Read the note on alum.)


What you need:

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 6 tsp alum 
  • 7 tbl oil
  • 1/2 cup water

Mu Shu Chicken Lettuce Cups

These are very low calories and you can throw in whatever veggies you have in the fridge.  My kids actually enjoyed this one.  One at the mixture in the lettuce cups and the other ate the mixture straight up.  Some chopped peanuts add great texture and flavor too!

Ingredients:

  • 5 ounce Bamboo shoots, canned, drained
  • 1 carrot, shredded or diced 
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced thinly
