$1 Admission at The Mariners’ Museum Everyday in August

One City. One Region. One Nation. One World.

August 19, 2016

The Mariners’ Museum and Park is launching a new “One” campaign in August where $1 admission reminds visitors to the Museum that we are: One City. One Region. One Nation. One World.

The Mariners’ Museum and Park connects people to the world’s waters because that is how we are connected to one another. The stories told through the Museum’s world class collection are everyone’s stories and histories. To celebrate the community that built the Museum, the price of admission for all visitors to The Mariners’ Museum during the entire month of August is $1 per person.

“Across our nation and the world, we see daily reminders of the forces at work pulling communities apart. During these times, we believe our Museum has an incredibly powerful narrative to tell about community and what binds us together,” says Howard H. Hoege III, interim president and CEO of the Museum. “As an institution, we are proud to represent Newport News and Hampton Roads.  The people of this community literally built our campus and many of the stories that we tell - from the USS Monitor to the steam ships in the Great Hall - are this region’s stories.  We are offering $1 admissions in August, because through our water – through our maritime heritage – we are one city, one region, one nation, and one world.”

During the month of August, there will be engaging, immersive experiences for visitors in the galleries. Volunteers and staff members will be located throughout the Museum to tell stories and share unique information about artifacts. Guests will be encouraged to leave feedback about their overall experience through an exit survey.

Every Monday, Friday, and Saturday, visitors can meet at the Chesapeake Bay Lens in the Museum’s Lobby at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to hear inspiring Naval history events that took place on the respective day. Each story will be told by author and historian John V. Quarstein and will include a 30-minute talk followed by a quick tour of a gallery or particular artifact that is related to the historic event.
