Riveting Demonstrations – 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM Watch live riveting in action and learn how Rosie and her fellow workers built the aircraft that helped win the war.
Lessons with Real Airplane Mechanics – 12:00 PM Get hands-on with tools used in aircraft maintenance and hear from professional mechanics about their careers.
Story Time & Bookmobile – 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 2:00 PM Enjoy readings of inspiring books like Rosie: Stronger than Steel and Mae Among the Stars. The Virginia Beach Public Library’s bookmobile will also be on-site, stocked with aviation and STEM-themed books, and will feature a special STEM activity.
Rosie-Inspired Craft Corner – All Day Create your own Rosie-themed memorabilia and learn about wartime crafting and victory gardens.
Riveting Elegance: Rosie’s Hairstyle & WWII Fashion – 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM Discover how women balanced safety and style in the workforce during the war and learn to recreate Rosie’s iconic look.
Victory Garden Activity – 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM Learn about wartime gardening and plant your own take-home garden with the Women’s Land Army.
Pop Riveting Demonstrations – 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM Engaging demonstrations showcasing the importance of riveting in aircraft construction, connecting it to the roles of women in factories during WWII.
WWII Aviation Reenactors & Interactive Activities – All Day
● Help pack a parachute like a wartime rigger.
● Become an Air Traffic Controller and guide a “pilot” down a taped runway.
● Try hands-on activities with authentic WWII artifacts and uniforms.
